Cindy Larson, a founder of the newly-formed Barrington Partnership for Animal Welfare (BPAW), recently announced that the last two "South Lake Kitties" headed off to their new home last Friday, March 21. Members of BPAW responded to a situation at a South Lake Drive residence last month, where a woman living in a home was reportedly evicted and left behind 14 cats. The volunteers trapped the cats and transported them to Harbor Animal Hospital, where staff cared for the animals, and also spayed and neutered some of them. Ms. Larson wrote in a recent e-mail that the last two cats trapped at the South Lake Drive residence were adopted out to a new family last week. They reportedly went to live with Barrington residents. Ms. Larson said other cats from the South Lake Drive residence found new homes in Little Compton, Portsmouth, Warwick, the East Side of Providence, Fall River and even Block Island. Over the last six months, BPAW has reportedly taken in and placed 31 cats in new homes. They have also taken care of six feral cats, getting them spayed/neutered and vaccinated. The feral cats were placed back in their colony or in a suitable location, such as a barn. Ms. Larson said BPAW volunteers also reunited two cats with their owners.
